Legal Advocacy

Paid Advocates have some training in mental health law and legal rights, but this is basic, and they know when more expert advice or representation is required.

The Network has a list of solicitors who are willing to give advice to our clients. This legal advice session is held fortnightly on a Thursday in the local acute psychiatric unit, The Little Brook Hospital by a rota of local solicitors who give their time free. They will give initial advice on the particular case, which can be on any issue, and advise whether or not legal aid will be available.

This service is by appointment only and can be booked by contacting the Hospital Advocate on 01322 285234.

Currently there are 6 local solicitors who provide this facility free of charge. There are respresentatives from Hatten Wyatt, Howarth Scott, T.G.Baynes and Michael Wightman.

Alternatively, you can contact the Network for an appointment with the Community Advocate who can assist you in exploring options for your next step.
